Extension Programmes
Students who show academic and social excellence can be extended by the following activities:
CodingComputer Science Coding Club will be run on a Monday lunchtime for senior students.

MusicA range of musical instruments are available to the students.

Mathex teamsStudents who excel in maths are invited to join a mathex team and compete against other schools in the region.

Kids Lit QuizStudents who excel in literacy are invited to join this team, the competition runs early in the year.

RoboticsTwo robotics kits are available for an extension opportunity for those students who are interested.

Kainui ClusterThe Kainui Cluster offers students a range of sporting, cultural and academic extension opportunities. These include, cross country, winter tournament, swimming, athletics, speech making, science and others.

Agri - KidsAgri - kids is a fun filled agricultural skills - based competition that operates under the Young Farmer of the Year umbrella. Children with strengths / interests in this area are chosen to represent Hiwinui School in teams of three.

CAMCentre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM) provides high quality entrance testing, value-added assessments and surveys for New Zealand schools. It also runs the annual Kiwi Science, Mathematics, English and Spelling competitions.

Music
Our qualified instructors offer students the opportunity to learn the following instruments at school, during school hours. In addition to the instruments below we also offer the ukulele and recorder.
GuitarOur students are taught guitar through the Epic Music Academy.If you are interested in getting your child involved, please contact the school office.

PianoOur students are taught by Rachel and Tanya, both of whom are experienced piano players. Lessons are on Wednesday and Friday. If you are interested in getting your child involved, please contact the school office.
