Room One - New Entrant/Year 1 Fiona van den Brink Room One We are an amazingly awesome group of seventeen children and our teacher Mrs Fiona van den Brink. Just over half of us are brand new this year and have had a wonderful first term into our school journey guided by our classmates who started part way through last year. We started the year off by visiting the Life Ed. Caravan and found out how to show respect to one another, our school and the environment. We also did a lot of work around making a Treaty to 'live and learn by' whilst at school. This is up on our classroom wall and we often revisit it to remember how we should play, learn and act alongside others at school. We are part of the Junior Ropu and it has been great starting each day with the other two classes, in our Ropu. Here we share our Pepeha, waiata, GoNoodle and other fun things. This time helps us get our bodies and brains ready for learning in a cool way, and gives the opportunity to share to a slightly bigger group than our own class. Mrs Blatchford has been leading this time for the first term. We all really love working through our Literacy Tumble, we do so many fun things like: printing, super Heart word spellers, Sunshine Online, activities, teacher time and much much more. So many of us know all our letter sounds are getting really great at spelling CVC words and knowing lots of spelling patterns; this knowledge helps us to become independent writers and readers, We love working in our 'Code' books too. Then there's maths and inquiry, swimming and art... The list is so long, we do lots of fun things in Room One.
